Description:

The Special Events Summer Intern will support United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut's staff in activities surrounding the organization's Community Campaign including but not limited to United Way Day of Caring, the agency speaker tour program, and the Jump Start campaign coordinator training program. Responsibilities:  Support professional staff in the planning and implementation of United Way Day of Caring, a 5,000+ volunteer event held each September; activities may include but are not limited to: support of and attendance at event planning meetings, interacting with workplace and agency coordinators via phone and email, training and supporting coordinators and volunteers at area companies and agencies, web content management, database input and recordkeeping, internet research, report creation and analysis, and t-shirt and sign distribution to volunteers  Support of speaker tour program involving 125 agency speakers; activities may include but are not limited to: data entry of speaker information into database, emailing confirmation forms, maintaining and verifying current information on speaker list, and providing support for trainings sessions  Assist with Jump Start campaign coordinator training program, including preparation ahead of time and being onsite to assist with logistics the day of the event  Other Communications-related duties as assigned Position would be mid-May through mid-August 2010, 15-20 hours per week between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, hours to be split between three to five days each week.

Minimum Requirements:

 Event management experience  Computer experience with Microsoft Office (Powerpoint, Word, and Excel) and internet applications  Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing  Friendly phone manner with experience in making cold calls  Ability to be punctual and dependable  Knowledge of the nonprofit sector helpful
