Description:
Working closely with the Director of HIV Prevention, the HIV Prevention Team and other HGLHC staff, the intern will learn about LGBT youth-related issues, acquire knowledge and skills in LGBT health promotion and program planning and gain first-hand experience working in a non-profit setting.
ntern Responsibilities: Assist with planning and promoting HGLHC’s Halloween Dance for LGBTQ youth, including liaising with planning committee and contacting potential donors for in-kind donations Organize past and present Halloween Dance budgets and records Assist with programmatic resource development, including research on tools and best practices in health promotion for LGBTQ youth. Assist in planning activities for Rainbow Room and possibly assist in weekly group activities Conduct outreach to GSA organizations in CT and coordinate mailings to increase awareness of HGLHC Youth Services activities Participate in HYHIL meetings and conduct outreach on behalf of HGLHC Youth Services and HIV Prevention as needed. Update agency Referral Database and search for new practitioners to enter Provide general administrative and program-related support to the HIV Prevention Team and other HGLHC staff.
Minimum Requirements:
Qualifications: Undergraduate or graduate study in a relevant field (public health, social services, gender studies, etc.); demonstrated commitment to youth and LGBTQ issues and experience working with diverse groups; excellent research and writing skills; superb interpersonal and verbal communication skills; strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to work with a positive attitude as part of a team.
