Description:
In partnership with area farmers, the Center for Self-Reliance organizes an annual coupon program that enables CSR clients to access fresh, locally grown produce at weekly farmers markets. The program is funded by contributions made to the Greenfield Harvest Supper Committee. Currently, clients can use coupons at the Greenfield Farmers Market that takes place on Saturdays, but CSR has an interest in extending the coupon program to include the Turners Falls Farmers Market that is held on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Beginning in July, clients who register at CSR are offered two $5.00 coupons to the farmers market. Clients can use this coupon to purchase fresh produce of their choice. Farmers accept these coupons as cash and subsequently submit them along with certain forms to CSR for payment.
The Farmers Market Coupon Program Coordinator collaborates with the Center for Self-Reliance Coordinator to organize, implement, and document participation in the program. Intern tasks include:
. Update documents and disseminate them to participating farms and farmers: introductory letter, guidelines, procedures, and reimbursement forms
. Visit the Greenfield and Turners Falls farmers markets to meet with and provide information packets to new prospective farm and farmer participants in the program
. Print, number, and bundle farmers market coupons, and provide them to CSR staff that register clients
. Design and implement a plan to promote the Farmers Market Coupon Program to Center for Self-Reliance clients. The goal of this plan would be to encourage and increase client participation in the program.
. Pick-up coupons and related reimbursement forms from farmers at the farmers markets
. Reconcile reimbursement forms with coupons picked up from or mailed in by farmers
. Submit reconciled reimbursement forms to the CSR Coordinator so that participating farmers can be issued reimbursement checks.
