Excellent Internship opportunity for a Chemistry student seeking hands-on experience with Market Leader in the UV printing industry. Gerber Scientific Products (GSP) is the world leader in the development and manufacture of computerized sign-making and specialty graphics systems, software, materials, and accessories. We have just launched the Gerber Solara ionT, Gerber's newest wide-format UV-cationic inkjet that is both a true flatbed and true roll-to-roll printer and capable of printing on heat sensitive materials! This is an unbelieveable opportunity to get real hands-on experience in Chemistry and UV technology, with responsibility for testing and making recommendations for change before our final product goes into production. We anticipate this to be a year-long project, and are flexible with hours 20-40/ week, and for the right individual this could be a real launch pad into the UV chemistry field or a full-time role with Gerber after graduation. Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Research Laboratory Technician, will perform a variety of specimen preparatory printing techniques and samples for new research development prototype. You will perform testing, document findings, and have opportunity to learn more about the UV technology you are working with. RESPONSIBLITES: Running UV curable printing equipment, making visual observations, documenting findings, generating reports; Performs a variety of printing laboratory experiments using both routine and special techniques and methods; Assists in more complex laboratory tasks; Collects, analyzes, and processes laboratory samples; Records results, organizes data, and performs basic computations; Maintains laboratory supplies and equipment; Will perform minor maintenance repairs and requires the use of hand tools; Complies with all safety and infection control standards; Performs other duties as required.

 

Minimum Requirements:
REQUIREMENTS: Must be a current student in pursuit of Bachelors degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering. Must be a self-starter with ability to work independently and at one's own pace to accomplish tasks in a rigorous schedule. Must have strong computer skills in MS Word and Excel. Must be eager to learn and willing to perform routine tasks. This position requires strong analytical skills, keen judgment and ability to take action and solve commonly encountered problems. Experience handling chemicals and mechanical dexterity a plus, as well as formulation experience working in a chemical laboratory. Experience in printing industry strongly preferred. We are looking for someone who can put in 20-40 hours/week, and can be flexible around your college schedule. Must be able to be on-site in the lab 3-4 days/week.
