The Waterbury Symphony Orchestra is offering an opportunity for a highly motivated student to gain experience in arts management, production, education, and marketing. Successful candidates will have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently, and a basic knowledge of orchestral music performance practices. A major in music performance, music management, music education, or marketing is not required, however; likely candidates will have at least some course work in one or more of these disciplines or equivalent experience. The available position is a minimum of 2 days per week, more than one applicant may be selected depending upon availability. Some evening and weekend hours may be required. Undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to apply. This is an unpaid internship, academic credit may apply. Internship may be extended beyond the fall 2010 semester. Responsibilities  Assist the executive director and marketing director with miscellaneous general management and marketing tasks.  Conduct demographic research to support marketing and business development planning.  Assist in developing a social networking strategy in coordination with marketing plan, utilizing websites such as facebook, twitter, etc.  Assist in producing marketing materials in print and electronic media formats for concerts and events.  Assist in concert and event production including box office, front of house, stage management, musician communications, etc.  Coordinate scheduling of education and community engagement programs.  Coordinate production of education concert school curriculum guide.  Miscellaneous clerical tasks including document management, filing, mail preparation, etc.  Attend monthly meetings for Board of Director's, education committee, and marketing committee when scheduling permits.

Minimum Requirements:

A major in music performance, music management, music education, or marketing is not required, however; likely candidates will have at least some course work in one or more of these disciplines or equivalent experience. Proficient in Microsoft Office.
