The Innovation Fellows Program is creating a policy agenda to help the next Governor make Connecticut's business environment more innovative in order to build companies with the potential for fast growth so Connecticut will have more high value-added jobs and a stronger economy within four years.
The project focuses on these key tech related business clusters:
Software/IT
Aerospace/Advanced Manufacturing
Energy/Green Energy
Biotech/Pharma/Medical devices
New media/internet
And may look at Finance/Insurance if resources allow
Fellows will interview business leaders and conduct original research to understand effective approaches to, and current drivers of, economic development. Working with gubernatorial candidates' policy staffs, they will help build a set of action steps for the next governor to use to shape an successful innovation eco-system in Connecticut.
Fellows will work with leaders from the following businesses: UTC (Otis, Carrier, Pratt & Whitney, UTRC, Hamilton Sundstrand) , Pitney Bowes, Covidien, GE, Electric Boat, Gerber Scientific, Rogers, Fuel Cell Energy, Proton Energy, Tangoe, Open Solutions, etc.
CTC's offices are in East Hartford, CT, but work can be conducted from home or
Donated offices that will be provided around the state.
Minimum Requirements:
1st or 2nd year: MBA, MPA, MS (engineering management or related) JD degree, and alumni and even precocious undergrad.
Cover letter, résumé and 250 word expression of specific types or projects and clusters you would be interested in, including but not limited to a description of the kind of research you would like to work on.
Background in economic development, technology transfer, political science or technology policy
Interest in Connecticut as an economic and political entity
Ability to work independently and with a project manager to complete research objectives
Strong communication and organization skills
Full time for ten of the weeks between June 1st and August 27th or part time between May 18th and September 4th. Also, must be able to contribute 8 hours each week through November 10th.
