Description:

Agency Description: The International Institute of Connecticut, Inc. is a non-profit, non-sectarian social service agency dedicated to the needs of immigrants, refugees and their families. Support is provided through direct professional services, counseling, advocacy and the advancement of fair and humane public policy. Our programs include Immigration and Naturalization Services, Refugee Resettlement and Social Services, Project Rescue: Anti Human Trafficking Project, ESL and Employment Assistance, Community Outreach & Education and Interpreter/Translator Services. The legal mmigration & naturalization counseling program resolves barriers to family reunification and enables immigrants to participate fully in our diverse communities. Working in this program, the students would be responsible for some light clerical work, including managing the phone system and scheduling appointments, however they would also have the opportunity to learn about the immigration process and the many barriers that low income families face in having family join them. Once students demonstrate a basic knowledge of immigration law and office operations, they will be trained to assist clients in applications for naturalization and other immigration benefits.
