Description:
Clean Water Action (CWA) is a national not-for-profit organization that works to educate, empower and activate citizens to better protect the environment and public health. CWA is looking to train passionate and motivated interns who are considering a future in areas such as public policy, environmental advocacy, public relations, public health, or law.
There are a variety of projects needing attention, and we work to match the interests and skills of the student to projects.
POSSIBLE PROJECTS: 1.) Clean Energy Communities- Help us train and empower local volunteer clean energy task forces and municipal officials to help them meet local clean energy, energy efficiency and global warming goals.
2) Global warming- help us conduct research and prepare documents related to the potential impacts of carbon dioxide sequestration on drinking water resources. Also work on research and materials creation related to state energy efficiency and solar power legislation, and attend meetings with state officials. Additional duties include asking volunteers to take action, writing letters to the editor, and tracking media coverage of the issues.
3.) Environmental health- help us maintain a strong presence and build a larger following on social media tools such as Twitter and Facebook, track and draft responses to newspaper articles, invite allied organizations and supportive individuals to events, help organize and design materials for leadership trainings, help identify and contact new organizations to join the Coalition for a Safe & Healthy CT.
Minimum Requirements:
Skills Required
Reliability, initiative, a commitment to public health, social justice, and the environment, enthusiasm, strong verbal and written skills, attention to detail, and an ability to learn quickly and complete a task to which you have committed.
More hours enable the intern to more fully engage and gain experience working on a project. The minimum commitment is at least 10 hours per week. Summer requirements are at least 30 hours per week. Students looking for experience with a smaller time commitment should ask about volunteer opportunities. Most of that time will be working from our office in the vibrant West End of Hartford, CT. We are not able to offer a stipend, although we are happy to work with the student to fill out the required paperwork for school credit or to apply for a grant program available through the school or another source.
