Description:

The Education Department of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, recognized as one of the nation's leading orchestral education departments through a 2004 MetLife Award, is seeking an intern for the fall (September through December). Duties may include helping to develop instructional materials for teachers as related to our programs; researching youth programming; assisting in the creation of marketing materials to promote the HSO's education and community programs to local schools, universities and community groups. May also include assisting with "Instrument Petting Zoos" for daycare/libraries. Other administrative duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Completion of at least sophomore year of college, a minimum GPA of 3.0, and computer proficiency (Excel, Word, Internet searching, some graphic design experience helpful). The successful candidate will have an interest in the performing arts and music education as well as access to their own vehicle. The time commitment for this internship will be approximately 5-10 hours per week (days and times are negotiable and may fluctuate from week to week). Although all applicants will be considered if they meet the above requirements, those students pursuing a degree in music/performing arts management, music education, or education are preferred. Knowledge of orchestral musical instruments and comfort in demonstrating them to children a plus. This position is an unpaid internship. Students can possibly receive college credit.
