About Us:
Work Opportunity Center, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization located in Agawam, Massachusetts. It has been providing developmentally disabled individuals with vocational training and employment opportunities, while supplying a dependable work force to local employers since 1969. There are two primary goals of the Vocational Training program. The first goal is to assist each trainee to obtain competitive and independent employment in the work force. The second goal is to provide a work place where individuals are employed, trained and supervised while working. This work, while giving them economic remuneration, also places them in the least restrictive environment possible.
There are 3 distinct programs within the agency. Our building hosts a Production Facility that is able to provide real work, paychecks and vocational skills to those we serve. We also have an enclave program that offers participants the chance to work with WOC staff in area companies performing production/assembly work within that business. Thirdly, we have a Supported Employment Department that assists individuals with finding competive employment in the local area. In addition to the diffenent work models available, Work Opportunity Center also provides a variety of different Vocational Training work skills such as office tasks, janitorial, cashiering and computer training. Vocational Training does not involve just the ability to learn various bench assembly work. It also involves learning to be responsible to come to work each day, to follow instructions, take direction from supervisors as well as working and getting along with co-workers.
