The Conference of Churches is a 107 year old faith-based ecumenical organization. It was founded with the mission to bring "the body of Christ together," through study, fellowship and service. Today, the Conference has a mission "to achieve social justice for all people through faith based leadership, advocacy, education and partnerships." This is achieved through training and consultation services for faith communities and clergy by building collaborative partnerships between government, philanthropic groups, faith-based and non-profit organizations. In addition, the Conference provides an array of asset building services, specifically designed to lift families out of poverty.
The Conference serves a regional network of 450 Roman Catholic and Protestant Churches in the 30 towns of Hartford County, reaching over half-a-million Christians. With representation from both main-line denominations, non-denominations and a mega church, the faith communities are diverse theologically, economically and culturally.
