About Us:
History and Mission - Giving Hartford Hope and Saving Lives, One Patient at a Time. The
Malta House of Care Mobile Clinic serves, without discrimination, as the only medical home for thousands of uninsured individuals from many communities across Greater Hartford, Connecticut, providing free primary medical care including necessary diagnostic testing and medications through a dedicated corps of volunteer nursing, medical and administrative staff; supported by the fundraising efforts of the Malta House of Care Foundation, Inc. The Malta House of Care Mobile Clinic in Hartford is intended to serve as an effective template for the development of additional medical homes in similarly challenged communities across the state and the nation by addressing healthcare access, cost effectiveness, health information and reducing health disparities. We estimate that for every dollar we spend, a hospital, clinic or community health center avoids spending not less than $3 and as much as $7 with a three year projected saving of over $3 million.
Notably, our unique approach of providing continuous comprehensive primary health care services from a mobile medical van targets those communities across the Greater Hartford region which endure the heaviest burden of health disparities. What began as a project to address episodic unmet health care needs has now, by necessity, become a community resource linking area hospitals, clinics, and private doctors' practices with patients who seek required medical care for chronic health problems as well as preventative care. MHC has recognized this challenge, defining its mission to make a significant and positive difference in the lives of those most in need and improve the overall health of the greater community one patient at a time.
Founded in 2005 to extend health care to those without health insurance, the Malta House of Care Mobile Medical Clinic (MHC) opened its doors in 2006, and has thus far provided nearly 15,000 free patient visits through a volunteer staff of over 70 physicians, nurses and lay volunteers. With a dedicated team and a new custom built and fully equipped medical vehicle, the MHC van travels to four distinct Hartford neighborhood clinic sites every Monday through Thursday serving a diverse, multi-ethnic, multi-lingual population. Malta House of Care provides free, high quality primary health care to an underserved population that has no other means of accessing the health care system. Free medical consultations, diagnostic testing and radiological imaging are provided, as well as free medications for those who do not have the means to afford them.
We value and revere our volunteers. If you wish to make a positive difference in your community, come and join us at the Malta House of Care Foundation as we save lives and give Hartford hope, one person at a time.
